🚀 Anthropic secures $450 million funding to develop the future of AI assistants! 🤖
May 23 2023
Anthropic, a generative AI startup founded by OpenAI veterans, has raised $450 million in a Series C funding round led by Spark Capital. The funding round was participated in by big tech companies such as Google, Salesforce, and Zoom, signaling a strong belief in the promise of Anthropic’s tech. The company uses AI to perform a wide range of conversational and text processing tasks and has clients across industries including healthcare, HR, education, and Zoom. With the new funds, Anthropic’s warchest stands at $1.45 billion, almost topping the list of the best-funded startups in AI, eclipsed only by OpenAI. Anthropic aims to create a “next-gen algorithm for AI self-teaching,” which could be used to build virtual assistants that can answer emails, perform research, and generate art, books, and more.

What does it mean?
- Generative AI: a category of AI models that can create new, unique content (such as text, music, images, etc.) based on patterns they have learned from existing data.
- Series C funding: a financing round in which a startup seeks to raise additional capital from investors after having already gone through earlier rounds of fundraising (Series A and B).
- Spark Capital: a venture capital firm that invests in technology startups.
- AI self-teaching: the ability of AI algorithms to continuously improve and learn from new data without needing to be explicitly programmed or trained by humans. In other words, the algorithm can teach itself to perform a task more effectively over time.
