Google introduces Gemini, its AI model aimed at competing with GPT-4
December 6 2023
Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai has introduced Gemini, the company’s ambitious large language model encompassing different versions tailored for various applications. With Gemini, Google aims to integrate AI across all products, enhancing capabilities from search to ads. There are three variants: the lighter, mobile-friendly Gemini Nano; the more robust Gemini Pro powering Google AI services and Bard; and the data-center-geared Gemini Ultra boasting the highest capacity. Having outperformed OpenAI’s GPT-4 in most benchmarks, particularly in multimodal applications involving video and audio, Gemini is a potent AI leap designed for efficiency and responsible use. It signifies Google’s response to OpenAI’s advances, marking a new chapter in the pursuit of AI excellence, which includes the aspiration toward artificial general intelligence. Gemini is currently English-only, launching with features on the Pixel 8 Pro and soon accessible to developers and enterprises, with the world-changing potential lying ahead.
