Google launches AI tools for making music
February 1 2024
Google has introduced MusicFX, an evolved version of its AI-generated music tool, MusicLM, designed for creating songs and music loops of up to 70 seconds. This enhanced tool, which is now widely available in Google’s AI Test Kitchen, allows users to generate music by entering text prompts and offers suggestions for modifying these prompts for more varied musical outputs. Google also unveiled TextFX, a companion tool aimed at aiding in the lyric-writing process, which, like MusicFX, harnesses AI to inspire and facilitate creativity. Despite these advances, there are unresolved ethical and copyright concerns surrounding AI-generated music, especially as tracks that closely mimic the style of actual artists continue to emerge. Google is navigating these challenges by implementing copyright filters and collaboration with artists, even as the broader legal and copyright implications of GenAI music remain uncertain.
