Microsoft releases EvoDiff, a new artificial intelligence for protein creation
September 15 2023
Microsoft has introduced a new artificial intelligence framework, EvoDiff, which can generate high-quality proteins without the need for specific structural information, making it less complex and more cost-effective. The model, which contains 640 million parameters, has been trained on data from various species and functional classes of proteins. Unlike other protein-generating methods, the EvoDiff model operates in the sequence space, allowing it to design both typical and disordered proteins. However, it has not yet been peer-reviewed, and further work is needed to determine its commercial viability.

What does it mean?
- Parameters: In the context of artificial intelligence, these are the settings and configurations that guide the AI system's learning process. For instance, how heavily it should consider certain variables over others when making predictions or decisions.
- Sequence space: This term often refers to a conceptual framework in bioinformatics where each possible sequence (like a protein or DNA sequence) occupies one unique point in a multi-dimensional space.
