Apple has restricted the internal use of generative AI tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft-owned GitHub’s Copilot in a bid to protect its confidential data from ending up with competitors, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. Although Apple is developing its own generative AI models, it is being cautious in the race to build these tools, citing concerns that internal tools trained on user data could end up being used by developers outside the company. Other organizations that have restricted their staff from accessing ChatGPT included Bank of America, Citi, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan, Walmart, and telecom giant Verizon.
